About Casper
July 2007
Hello All,
Mommie and I want to thank everyone wishing me well and everyone who participated in my auction. Mommie said lots of people were so nice and donated stuff, bid on stuff, and spread the word about the auction. I even got some stuff to sniff in the mail! Whoopee! You are all such wonderful friends and I am super lucky to have you rooting for me to get better. We wish there was some way that we could meet you all to thank you personally. I hope to get better again so that I can get back to my normal activities and share stories of my adventures with all of you. Special thanks again to Elise and Steve for organizing this second fundraiser for me. You guys are the best!
Woof!

This is Part 2 of our fund raiser for Casper. During the Part 1 auction in May, some folks indicated they were notified late in the email chains and others indicated they had other commitments during May. These folks said they had items to donate and wanted to help out Casper. Sooo, here is Part 2!! Happy bidding!!
Casper is suffering from Evans Syndrome which is a combination of Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia and Autoimmune Thrombocytopenia. There are conditions wherein his red blood cells and platelets are being destroyed by his own immune system. Last year, when he was first diagnosed, Casper underwent 3 blood transfusions and 1 oxyglobin transfusion to keep him alive and spent more than a week in the hospital. Through it all, he kept showing everyone his strong will to fight this disease even when multiple doctors had suggested he be put to sleep. Trooper that he is, he fought back. And after almost a year on a cocktail of medicines, he was able to become stable enough to return to most of his activities like playing and walking. He was weaned off the drugs because of their bad side effects, one of which was Cushings disease which he developed because of the extended steroid use.
But after only a few months off the medication, he collapsed and his gums turned white again. We took him to the emergency room and found he that had relapsed. He is now back on all his old medication and on some new ones as well.
He is such a wonderful soul and brings happiness to everyone who sees his pictures, reads his stories or meets him in person. We are all rooting for him so that hopefully he will be able to beat this disease again.

Casper is loved by so many people. Casper’s friends set up this auction to try to help Casper’s Mom pay for the expensive vet bills. All winning bid proceeds will go directly to Casper’s Mom. Thank you, Steve, for setting up this auction site! And thank you to Elise and Brooke in helping Steve administer this web site!
